Dr. Chalil Madathil, Assistant Professor of Industrial, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering (IMSE) and Luis Ochoa, Founder at GOAL Product Development and General Manager at 3D Lab Mexico, Dr. Scott Crawford, Director of the Training and Educational Center for Healthcare Simulation (TECHS) at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) El Paso, discussed how they have developed relationships between their research centers and companies. This led to the larger discussion of the difference between research and innovation, and how research can be promoted to fuel innovation, what works and what doesn’t. Dr. Madathil discussed UTEP’s digital twin project and how utilizing digital twins that provide a virtual representation of a system across its life-cycle will shape the industrial future. Luis Ochoa discussed UTEP’s Keck Center, a world-class multidisciplinary research facility focused on the use and development of Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies. With their state-of-art equipment and over 18 years of experience, they support research and provide fabrication, testing, and customized solutions to national and international clients.
